Musicians that are easy on the ears as well as eyes

The bird and the bee – look & listen

Finding music that is soft and easy going while being up beat and cheerful all at the same time can be difficult.  Recently my friend Megan introduced me to a fantastic band that meets the criteria ; The Bird And The Bee via the most awkward and amazing music video featuring some elderly folk getting their dance on.  AWESOME.  I have moved on to their album “Ray Guns Are Not Just The Future” being on heavy rotation in my car, which is the best way to test out music in my opinion.  Then I found the holy grail…. their album “Interpreting The Masters Volume 1: A Tribute To Daryl Hall And John Oates”.  That’s right, Hall and Oates cover album.  Enough Said.  Check out the quirky videos and pictures to steal some ideas for a boss vintage inspired wardrobe like Inara or Greg.

She & Him – Look & Listen

Your first encounter with Zooey Deschanel may have been the same as mine, a gorgeous girl who showcased her pipes like a songbird in the classic “Elf” with Will Ferrell.  She has come full circle, from acting to a successful music career in the group “She & Him”.  The HIM side of the duo consists of the simply styled M. Ward.  Crooning is just one of Zooey’s many talents, including looking naturally gorgeous and having impeccable taste making her one of my ultimate style icons.  Being married to “Death Cab For Cutie” lead singer Ben Gibbard doesn’t hurt her adorable factor either, what a talented cutie pie couple they are! I probably don’t have to voice how jealous I am of her… ummmm….EVERYTHING.

Angels and Airwaves – LOVE movie premiere – August 10, 2011

Angels and Airwaves debuted their new movie “LOVE” last night in a select 500 theater release across the country.  Erin ( who originally introduced me to the band ) and I got our tickets as soon as the movie dates were released so the tickets wouldn’t sell out. We arrived an hour early to make sure we got killer seats, turns out that wasn’t a problem.  Sitting by ourselves in the movie, we began to wonder if anyone else was going to show up at all.  Not wanting to pass up a golden photo opportunity, we wasted some time taking pictures of us creeping in the seats.  Eventually more people came in and the movie began, and from there on out the night took an un-expected turn.  For whatever reason I was expecting something that never came to fruition, the movie was a very abstract artistic indie movie rather than something on the more musical side.  It was still very well done, and the movie for it’s purposes as explained by the Director and Tom Delonge of Angels and Airwaves had met their desired effect.   One of the more enjoyable parts of the Q & A session with Tom Delonge , William Eubank, and Gunner Wright was the behind the scenes portion showing and discussing how the major props in the movie were created.  Including hearing about the rigorous 6 months it took to simply get the scene and props ready for the action packed “civil war” opening sequence.  If you take the movie for what it was, rather than the musical epiphany I had in mind it stands as a beautiful film.   The new music video for “Anxiety” a song from their “Love 2″ album coming out on 11/11/2011 was premiered after the movie and was simply put FANTASTIC.  Looking forward to their new album and encourage all of you fans to watch the movie once it is released so you can decide for yourself if “LOVE” was worth the 4 year in the making wait .

Little Dragon – July 2011 Look & Listen

I first heard the vocal stylings of Little Dragon’s lead singer Yukimi Nagano on The Gorillaz “Plastic Beach” album, her soft sweet voice contrasts yet compliments Damon Albarn on the songs “Empire Ants” and “To Binge”.  When I saw the Gorillaz in concert November of last year in Seattle, I was instantly mesmerized by Yukimi’s stage presence.  Something about her small frame and deliberate vocal control had me wondering what planet she came from, turns out it’s just Sweden.  Now that I’ve been listening to their collective work as a band, it’s a consistent level of enjoyment for all their albums including “Machine Dreams” , self titled “Little Dragon” and Blinking Pigs.  Their newest album “Ritual Union” just dropped this week and Itunes is offering a free download for their single “Nightlight” this week only.  Not to mention that their style as a band is intriguing and makes me want to poach Yukimi’s closet on a regular basis.

On a side note, I have recently started using Spotify at the request of my good friend James.  I absolutely love it, I’ve been listening to tons of music while using the computer and am contemplating deleting most of my music library from itunes so I don’t get bogged down by all the files on my hard-drive.  So these links will only work for you if you already have spotify on your computer, or if you decide to join the club and get a huge library of music at your disposal with none of the pitfalls of Pandora.
