Benefits of a rainbow – good luck, cheerfulness, pot of gold, wishes come true, and beauty to name a few.  Why not bring the joy of the spectrum of shades to your home ?? Oh some may say it’s color gone over the top, but psssssshhhhh. I like what I like! And if you wanna smile any time you walk in your front door, add a little rainbow to your house.  Enjoy.

Rubbish Rehab at Interior Design Show West – Vancouver, BC Canada

October 9, 2011

Our trip to Canada for our very first interior design show has come to a close , we are home and rested.  Looking back on our days at the New Convention Centre in Vancouver they flew by and were very inspirational.  Among the highlights of our trip , we were able to meet several other business owners that were kind and generous to us “new kids” in many ways.  The show itself was a great display of what is going on in our industry and what to look forward to in the future.  I managed to snag a few pictures for you all that didn’t get the chance to visit the show.  Wish I had more time at the show to run around and take photos of all the fantastic things we got to witness.

In our u-haul cargo van on the way to Canada… Kevin was telling me some long winded story…. all I’m gonna say is it was about 7 in the morning and we had woken up with 2 hours of sleep. I needed some candy and distraction.
Our Studio North booth pre-show and lighting
Thank goodness for our lamps, the show decided to set the overhead lighting to “mood”
Our awesome neighbor / new friend Megan owner of Identity had the most amazing Canadian pride goods…. GO Canada!
These horse lamps were about as big as …. well…. a horse
These recycled cardboard walls and units were one of my favorite spaces
These high tech laser cut walls were so amazing in person
I mean COME ON – space invaders
natural wood was a prominent recurring theme at the show
everytime I walked by this moss area it was such a great change to smell the forresty outdoors

Straight from Beauty and the Beast….

We had a great time talking to the show visitors and are grateful for the opportunity to show our work

Amy Butler Rugs & Wallpaper For your home

September 14, 2011
By

When we started Rubbish Rehab back in the spring of 2010, I delved into the world of designer textiles and fabrics. Amy Butler is one of the more well known and coveted out of the bunch of designers taking over the market.  Her designs are at times romantic, floral, geometric, soft or a combination of all of the above.  You can now enjoy the look of her textiles in the forms of wallpaper and rugs in a variety of colors.  genius.

Collecting glass display domes – hands on project

August 26, 2011
By

The difficult part of this project is finding the domes themselves without needing to sell your kidneys in the process.  Larger display glass domes can cost up into the $500′s when you are looking at special order or hard to find shapes and sizes.  But the $4.99 price tags on my two little gems from the thrift store were more to my taste.  It doesn’t matter what is currently living in the dome when you find it, as long as you have a vision for what you would like to display in it.  A little paint, a knick knack and your glass display dome; then you are ready for some cute pieces to show off your treasures.

Jonathan Adler Designs – happy & chic color at home for kids and adults alike

Seeing Jonathan Adler’s designs and wares feels like staring at the sun; you know looking is only making things worse but you somehow can’t tare your burning eyes away from the magnificence.  Every glimpse of a new product from his online store breaks my heart just a little more each time, because although I worship his aesthetic and design mantra we live in different financial worlds.  However, I would like to throw a bizarre hair brained idea out there just in case sir Jonathan himself is reading this…. if you could take a hint from Marc Jacobs or Target and create a separate limited line geared towards the “budget conscious” folk I can GUARANTEE it would still be a profitable venture.  So, that being said; here are things that make my love for Jonathan Adler expand in every way imaginable.

Seahorse extravagazna – monthly pattern round up – august 2011

Hippocampus the scientific name for seahorse is derived from the Greek hippos, “horse”, and campus, “sea monster.”  But how on earth could you confuse these cute little ocean ponies for monsters??  Make some wiggle room for these pint size creatures in your day for a sure fire cause of smiles and joy.

Sophisticated Seashells

Beach combing is one of the most relaxing past times while being thrilling all in the same moment.  You never know what can be found down near the ocean after the tide goes out.   One of my first trips I can recall scouring the shore was down in Homer, Alaska; I found pink and blue golf balls, empty glass perfume bottles and plenty of shells of course.  I am constantly drawn to things reminiscent of the sea, whether it is a motif , a piece of jewelry , a color , or the shells themselves I place them in my home to keep the memories close.  A word of caution, choose your shell-ige carefully… it’s easy to start looking like a tacky island gift shop with googley eyes glued on your clams.

Large green urchins with small turquoise lichen shells amongst faux moss keeps things lively on top of our bookshelf

the combination of the abstract shape of the wood bowl and the texture of the shells is one of my favorites

The bowl of shells on our kitchen island keeps guests' boredom at bay

My husband found these large oyster shells on one of his recent trips to the ocean

Being allergic to metal rings makes this shell substitute all the more perfect for me

what else would you put in a ceramic spiky urchin bowl??

Rubbish Rehab – Gina’s Custom Order – Chair transformation

August 16, 2011
By

My furniture business Rubbish Rehab that I run with my uber talented husband just finished a custom order for a wonderful set of clients.  Gina and her husband hired us to create some one of a kind fireside chairs for their living room.  Thousands of fabric options were considered before we found the exact fit for their home.  Those are the benefits of a custom personalized set of chairs, you can make them into whatever your heart desires!

After the deconstruction of the previous upholstery and wicker siding, sanded and painted in a neutral soft metallic shade.

Fresh from the antique store ready to be all spruced up!

You call it Tangerine, I call it perfection… color of the week

August 7, 2011
By

As you may have already guessed, I adore absolutely every shade of citrus.  Tangerine, the tamer version of the classic orange, is an all time favorite.  Allow it to bring you to the bright side, it’s nearing the end of summer so let’s enjoy some sunshine hues before it’s time for hot chocolate and pumpkin pie.
