Beach combing is one of the most relaxing past times while being thrilling all in the same moment. You never know what can be found down near the ocean after the tide goes out.  One of my first trips I can recall scouring the shore was down in Homer, Alaska; I found pink and blue golf balls, empty glass perfume bottles and plenty of shells of course. I am constantly drawn to things reminiscent of the sea, whether it is a motif , a piece of jewelry , a color , or the shells themselves I place them in my home to keep the memories close. A word of caution, choose your shell-ige carefully… it’s easy to start looking like a tacky island gift shop with googley eyes glued on your clams.

Large green urchins with small turquoise lichen shells amongst faux moss keeps things lively on top of our bookshelf

the combination of the abstract shape of the wood bowl and the texture of the shells is one of my favorites

My husband found these large oyster shells on one of his recent trips to the ocean

Being allergic to metal rings makes this shell substitute all the more perfect for me
